Adi Shankara, the great Hindu philosopher saint, opens his commentary on the Bhagavad Gita with a beautiful verse:

The Sanskrit text and transliteration follows:
Is there a good framework for discerning happiness from melancholy ? Does such a framework allow us to continuously evaluate our progress towards achieving happiness in our every day life?
Chapter 8, verse 17 in the Bhagavad Gita has reference to the concept of a 'Brahma' day and night.
As I was strolling through the Redmond Watershed preserve near Seattle, I came up on these long slender trees reaching out to the sky, as though they were angling to search and reach out for something !
